What is the current market size and growth of Earthmoving equipment market in India? What are the growth drivers?
The Earthmoving equipment market size in India was around 60,000 units in 2010. Of these, Backhoe loaders, crawler excavators and mobile cranes accounted for nearly 78 percent of the market, followed by mobile compressors, compaction equipment and wheel loaders, which together constituted a further 17 percent. Backhoe loader accounted for 42 percent of the total market in 2010. The growth of the market will continue to be driven by the development of infrastructure and the economic growth of the country. The 11th five year plan period will end on 31st March 2012 and the 12th plan will be in force thereafter. The government is likely to more than double the infrastructure sector's expenditure to over US$1.0 trillion, which will have a positive impact on the construction equipment industry. Factors favouring the growth of the Earthmoving equipment industry include the declining availability of manual labour and sheer scale of work yet to be done in the infrastructure sector.
