The
Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja has said that the amount of loan
sanctioned by Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) for
economically weaker sections in the country including Uttar Pradesh during the last three years amounting to Rs 4125 crore and more than four million people were benefited.
Despite unfavourable market condition, HUDCO was manged to give maxium loan amount of Rs 2267 cr for 4,02,341 housing units in 2011 fiscal compared to 2009 and 2010 period, she pointed out.
In a
written reply in the Lok Sabha Kumari Selja said, the scheme of
Interest Subsidy Scheme for Housing the Urban Poor (ISHUP), launched by the
Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, aims to leverage flow of
institutional finance for the Economically Weaker Section(EWS)
and Lower Income Group(LIG) segment
household and resulted in
creation of additional housing stock of 3.10 lakh houses for EWS/LIG segments during the XIth Five Year Plan.

Out of which, 2.13 lakh dwelling units are
targeted for EWS housing and 0.97 lakh for LIG housing. However,
this is a demand driven scheme, she added.
