Steel/composite structures are bringing in a new revolution within the construction industry predominantly in the building construction. Although, concrete has been the dominant building material for a long time especially in India, there are various economic and social benefits of using steel in construction like material costs will be lower with steel than with any other alternative, cost effectiveness in long run, flexibility, sustainability, ductibility, Quicker construction time, Reduced time-related construction cost, Shorter Build Time, Earlier Revenue, Higher Revenue, Greater Flexibility and Better Internal Space, Better Design, Improved Site Health & Safety, Better Quality etc.

Besides these advantages of steel, it is notable that environmental advantages of constructional steel is gaining importance as the sensitivities of societies for the green environment is increasing each day. It is a commonly accepted fact that the steel presents a lot of positive environmental impacts when it comes to sustainability, recyclability and reusability issues and these advantages have made steel construction a preferred choice.

The construction sector in many countries has embraced the usage of steel in achieving greater sustainability in construction. India has a potential to more than double its Structural Steel consumption over the next decade. Indian Scenario is set to change. Factors like wide availability of steel, improvement in fabrication facilities and realization that building cost is small fraction of other costs has made it possible. Airports, Malls, Warehouses, Factory buildings have now shifted to Steel and slowly and gradually now the High Rises and other building constructions are using Steel beams & columns framing. Also, good progress has being made to overcome certain issues evolving around steel construction.

JK Lakshmi Cement sets up the first RMC plant of Kota

Indore:  Keeping pace with the global construction trends, JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd. a leading cement manufacturer in India, has set up the Kota's first RMC commercial plant in Indraprastha Industrial area. Spread across the area of 1.5 acre, with a capacity of 30 cubic meters per hour, the plant will meet the growing demand for ready-mix concrete in Kota and the neighboring areas.

Shailendra Chouksey
Addressing the media, Shailendra Chouksey, wholetime director, JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd., said, "At JK Lakshmi customer first is the philosophy of not only the marketing department but of the entire company. With this objective in mind we recognised the need of customer to have best quality concrete. Like all our plants our RMC Kota facility also has been designed to fulfill these expectations. We are increasing our footprints in the cement market also by setting up a green field cement plant in Durg, Chattisgarh at an investment of Rs 1200 crores. The company presently operates plants at Jaykaypuramin Rajasthan and grinding units near Ahmedabad and at Jharli in Haryana."

The company has a wide network of 2200 dealers served by 70 cement dumps strategically located in the North India and part of Western India.

Recognising that Kota city is emerging as one of the fastest growing cities of the country which has a large population of elite, educated and quality conscious consumers, JK Lakshmi Cement decided to choose Kota for its RMC business expansion in Rajasthan.

The fully computerised facility of Kota will provide the desired springboard to speed up the construction projects in and around Kota.

The plant is a Schwing Stetter (Germany) make CP-30 RMC plant. It is fully computerised plant with modern and latest laboratory to provide concrete of international standards.

Speaking at this occasion C.S.Sadasivan, Chief Executive Marketing, said, "The Company is a pioneer of commercial RMC in Rajasthan. Its first RMC plant in Jaipur was in 2006. The company also has RMC plant at Kushkhera and the Kota plant is its third plant of Rajasthan."

JK Lakshmi power mix concrete will also provide niche products like Self Compacting Concrete (SCC), Pervious Concrete, Heat Resisting Concrete, Light weight concrete, Fibre concrete etc. to the consumers which are generally not produced at Site Mixed Concrete.

RMC is a modern technology. It refers to concrete that is specifically manufactured for delivery to the customer's construction site in a freshly mixed unhardened state. Concrete itself is a mixture of Portland cement, water and aggregates comprising sand and gravel or crushed stone. It enhances construction speed and saves time and money. RMC is a better quality concrete which eliminates requirement of storage space for basic materials at site which results in avoidance of wastage of basic material.

JK Lakshmi Cement plans to add 10 JK Lakshmi Power Mix Stations (RMC Plants) in next 3 years. The Indian market for Ready Mix Concrete has been showing a consistent growth, year over year. With the big infrastructure projects turning to RMC, experts in this segment expect a growth rate of 25% p.a. in India, the company said in a release.

NRI biz man Sivasankaran sells IT park for 110 crore

CHENNAI: In a blockbuster real estate transaction, NRI businessman C Sivasankaran has sold off his Sterling Technopolis IT park in Perungudi on the Old Mahabalipuram Road to Chennai-based hardware distribution chain Redington for 110 crore.

The real estate market is going through a sedate phase in Chennai with very few large transactions taking place. Located next to Krishnan Tennis Centre, Sterling Technopolis has a built-up area of 2.40 lakh sq feet. HCL Technologies is its only tenant. "The transaction concluded a few days back.

At disclosed rates it works out to 4,600 per square foot which is a very fair rate in this region considering that we are in a tepid market," industry sources said. Neither Sivasankaran nor Redington could be contacted for details. Sources said Redington, India's largest distributor of technology products, wants to centralise all operations under one roof.

At present, Redington has scattered its activities across half a dozen office spaces in the city. The last big transaction on the IT corridor was when investment firm Xander Group's real estate private equity arm bought 5,70,000 sq ft of office space developed by Appaswamy Builders in Navalur near Chennai for $40 million in April. "We don't get to see big bought out deals in IT space.

Such transactions keep interest levels high and set benchmarks for future deals," industry sources said. Located a mile away from Chennai's trophy destination for IT -- Tidel Park, Perungudi is a magnet for IT companies. The rentals for IT space here are between 40 to 45 a square foot.
